Who We Are

The mission of Chisago Lakes Baptist Church is to magnify God by pursuing intentional spiritual growth, encouraging Christ-centered lives, and cultivating redemptive relationships.

Chisago Lakes Baptist Church is a growing church just 30 minutes north of St. Paul, Minnesota. CLBC is located in the beautiful Chisago Lakes area of Chisago County. Our ministry is characterized by several fundamental philosophies:

  • Preaching: We preach expositorily, which means that we work our way verse-by-verse through the Scripture text. We preach through individual books. This helps our congregation understand and apply God’s Word. If you’re looking for a church that entertains you, then that’s definitely not us. However, if you are looking for a church that will teach you God’s Word carefully and clearly, well then we might just be the place you’re looking for.

  • Growth: We expect all members to be growing in Christlikeness (2 Peter 3:18). God doesn’t save us and then leave us to live as we did before salvation. He has given us His sufficient Word (2 Tim 3:16-17) and His Holy Spirit (2 Cor 3:18) to help us grow. Therefore, our consistent message is for believers to put off the works of the flesh and to put on the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5).

  • Transparency: Each of us is a work in process. We are well aware of our sinfulness; the Christian life is a life of repentance. God wants us to live transparent and vulnerable lives, so we need to walk in the light (1 John 1:5-2:2). Transparency is necessary for relationship with God and with others. You can't have strong relationships without it. So don’t wear a mask when you come to our church. Bring your problems with you and let’s find solutions to them from God’s Word.

  • Ministry: We believe that pastors are supposed to equip lay people to do the ministry (Eph 4:11-12). We couldn’t hire enough people to do all the ministry God has for us anyway, and God’s plan is for every member to contribute their service for His glory. We’re all members of the body and each member is necessary (1 Cor 12:12-31). We look at it as a family meal versus dining out. When you dine out, you expect the wait staff to take care of everything. However, in a family meal everyone pitches in to prepare and clean up afterwards. Our church is a family and every member must serve to be obedient to God.

  • Evangelism: We believe the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20) applies to all believers. We want to be faithful in sharing the Gospel in our corner of God’s global vineyard, and so we encourage each other to look for ways to relate to people redemptively.

  • Worship: Corporate worship is not about us according to 1 Corinthians 14. Our goal is to glorify God, and so every element of the service is designed for that purpose. In our case that means in areas of Christian liberty we are more traditional and conservative than many churches. We want God to be exalted and our egos and pride to be deflated (John 3:30).There are several principles that guide our worship together:

1. Our worship should edify the body (1 Cor 14:1-5).
2. Our worship should include clear communication (1 Cor 14:6-12).
3. Our worship should engage the mind (1 Cor 14:13-19).
4. And our worship should convict all (1 Cor 14:20-25).
